2 Kings 22
Message Take Aways:
1. King Josiah’s devotion to the Lord was demonstrated by his efforts to make repairs to the temple to allow the nation to return to proper worship of the One True God—“Who is wise and understanding among you? Let him show by good conduct that his works are done in the meekness of wisdom.” James 3:13
2. The revelation of God’s word served to expose the sins of Judah and generated conviction in King Josiah which led him to seek the Lord for direction—“For the word of God is living and powerful, and sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing even to the division of soul and spirit, and of joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” Hebrews 4:12
3. Though the nation of Judah would be judged for its sins, King Josiah would experience mercy because of his genuine response of humble repentance—“So rend your heart, and not your garments; Return to the LORD your God, For He is gracious and merciful, Slow to anger, and of great kindness; And He relents from doing harm.” Joel 2:13
