1. King Hoshea attempted to strengthen his own kingdom by forming a conspiracy while trusting in human flesh to deliver him from the daunting enemy, which brought forth complete bondage—“Thus says the LORD: ‘Cursed is the man who trusts in man And makes flesh his strength, Whose heart departs from the LORD.’” Jeremiah 17:5

2. The northern kingdom of Israel was ushered into captivity due to the nation’s stubborn refusal to heed His word and to worship the One True God—“(for you shall worship no other god, for the LORD, whose name is Jealous, is a jealous God),” Exodus 34:14
